Luke & Shannon: Proposal

I had front row seat to Luke’s beautiful proposal to Shannon. It got me thinking about how I’ve had a front row seat to a lot of their relationship. I remember meeting her at the Brautigam house. Of course I had already heard so much. They met so young that they were actually together far before they were officially “together”. Though they were young, there were so many things about them that wasn’t young at all.

Of course they had that sweet, young love air about them, the giddy grins and nervous glances. But they also had a mature carefulness about them. It was as if they knew the long journey ahead of them. They danced the dance of priorities between family, friends, school, sports, various other commitments and each other beautifully. I know it wasn’t as easy as it looked because I too danced that dance at a young age. They took the care to guard one another’s hearts. Above all they pursued the Lord. Apart and together.

Luke has always been a planner and this proposal was no exception. The early morning shower cleared and the sky opened up for the most perfect moment. The look on Shannon’s face said it all. It was total surprise with a freeing kind of joy. As if she had been holding her breath and they could now breathe together. The tears were streaming and Luke was just beaming. Their shared joy was one of the most beautiful human moments I have witnessed. What a blessing to be their sister and get to do life with them. Here’s to the future Brautigams! We love you Luke & Shannon.
